Biography

Born in Waterford, Michigan in 1982, Jeff Uban knew that he was to be in the world of music at the age of 4. Uban immediately started on piano then switched to trumpet at the age of 9. Much of his training is accredited to former principal trumpet of the Detroit Symphony, Frank DiBlassi.

 

Uban toured around the world with the Blue Lake International Jazz Band and Symphony Band while in High School. A few years later, he toured England and performed at Carnegie Hall with the Flint Youth Symphony.

 

After graduation, Uban attended the University of Michigan-Flint for two years as principal trumpet in the concert and jazz bands. In 2002, he transfered to Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan to finish his bachelor degree in music performance.

 

While at Grand Valley, Uban studied jazz and classical trumpet with Richard Stoelzel and Kurt Ellenberger. He became a 3 time national finalist (NTC), "Jazz Scholarship Winner" (ITG), and "Outstanding Soloist" at the Elmhurst, Aquinas, and Northern Colorado, Greely Jazz Festivals.

 

Uban moved to Denver, Colorado in 2006 for his master's degree which he finished in 2008 from the University of Denver. While at DU, he taught the University Jazz Ensemble. That same year joined the faculty at the Community College of Denver as the trumpet professor and adjunct faculty.

 

Uban writes the majority of the music performed by his group, The Jeff Uban Quartet. In 2008 he came out with his debut album, Shift In Times, which is being sold on itunes, CDbaby, Amazon, and other locations. It is currently being aired in Colorado and Michigan on major radio stations. Outside of jazz, Uban has written pop, gospel, country, and in the classical venue: trios, trumpet ensembles, and brass quintets. Many pieces are being played and broadcasted around the nation.

 

Along with teaching clinics and master classes, Uban has multiple studio recordings with different artists including the National Cinemas and has toured with the Broadway show, "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers." Past performances have been with: Wynton Marsalis, Jim McKneely, Lynn Seaton, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, Debbie Boone, Rob Smith, Tim Froncek, Todd Reynolds, Rob Foster, Kurt Ellenberger Trio, Sunny Wilkinson, Rayna English, Orquesta Sensacional, Grand Rapids Jazz Orchestra, Truth in Jazz Orchestra, and Jovino Santos Neto.
